This year, we were once again among the main partners of the CroCommerce Conference — we had the opportunity, together with merchants and partners, to accelerate the development of digital payments in Croatia and the region, and to demonstrate how simplicity and security drive conversions and enhance the user experience.

We started the day with the Firechat “Things to Know When Starting an E-commerce Business”, where Ernest Antolović (Shipshape), Miroslav Mareš (BOXNOW), Arpad Neveri (DECTA), and our Ali Sallabi (Monri Payments) shared very practical insights about the real beginnings of online sales — emphasizing the importance of researching the market, competition, and customers, starting with the basics, growing gradually, and investing in customer trust from day one. As Arpad Neveri summed it up:

“When starting an e-commerce business, the most important thing is to have a clear plan and not overcomplicate things. Start with a basic solution and then build it according to your customers’ needs. Although integrations can be challenging and time-consuming, they are exactly what create comprehensive solutions that drive the market forward.”

Later on, at the Future Stage, we moderated the panel “Effortless Online Payments: Collaboration Between Fintechs and Financial Institutions”, where together with representatives from Nexi Croatia (Miro Sabota), Visa Europe (Marina Jurišić Škurla), Erste Card Club (Mario Jelčić), Zagrebačka banka (Jelena Miloloža), and OTP banka (Rudolf Vučemilović), we discussed how partnerships drive innovation — from digital wallets and one-click checkouts to the use of AI in fraud prevention and personalization. Monri’s Ana Piližota moderated the panel.

Throughout the discussion, one key takeaway stood out — the need for frictionless solutions and a single interface that provides everything a merchant needs:

“A merchant doesn’t want to go to one, two, or three different places to get what they need — that’s where integration happens, and providers like Monri bring everything together in one place. People want a one-stop shop. As technology evolves faster and faster, banks are gradually moving from a primary to a secondary role because they can’t keep up with the market’s pace — that’s where fintech steps in, with PSPs like Monri handling everything else in the process,” said Miro Sabota from Nexi Croatia.

The discussion also highlighted how digital wallets and biometrics have transformed shopping habits:

“Wallets have undoubtedly undergone the biggest transformation — Apple Pay and Google Pay have enabled contactless payments, while biometrics ensures secure transaction execution,” said Marina Jurišić Škurla from Visa Europe.

Finally, the panelists agreed that the role of AI is highly practical — from payment personalization and improved customer experience to transaction protection and online fraud prediction, concluded Rudolf Vučemilović from OTP banka.
